Ugep is the main town of the Yakurr area in Cross River State, in southeastern Nigeria. It is often described as one of the largest villages in West Africa, because it grew from a traditional settlement and not as a planned city. From above, it appears as a compact, dense cluster of streets and compounds.
A few main roads enter the town and link it to the rest of the state, and within the town a finer network of streets and lanes connects the different quarters. Farmland and green vegetation surround the settlement on all sides.
