Abū ‘Arīsh lies in the Jazan Region in the far south-west of Saudi Arabia, on the Tihama coastal plain a short distance inland from the Red Sea. The terrain is flat and low. On a map, the town spreads across it in a mix of older, tighter streets and newer, more regular districts laid out along wide roads.
