Andkhoy Map Poster & Print
Andkhoy lies in Faryab province in northern Afghanistan, on the plain that slopes gently towards the Amu Darya and the border with Turkmenistan. Its surroundings are flat, open and dry, with farmland sustained by irrigation. From above the town appears as a mix of streets and walled compounds around a central bazaar, with roads leaving in long, straight lines across the plain.
The town has long been a stop on trade routes linking northern Afghanistan with Central Asia, and today it lies on the road towards the Aqina border crossing. It is known for the region's Turkmen carpets and, historically, for karakul lambskins, both traded through its markets. Much of its population is Turkmen and Uzbek, reflecting the cultural geography of the north.
An Andkhoy map poster renders a town where geometry comes from walls and water. Compounds form a pattern of small enclosed blocks, lanes weave between them towards the market, and straight roads and channels extend into the fields. The white space around the town is part of its character, showing how settlement sits within a wide and open landscape.

Lanes and roads converge on the market area, where the town's trade in carpets, produce and livestock has been concentrated for generations.
Plains roads
Straight roads and irrigation lines extend across the flat land towards neighbouring towns and the border, drawn as long, uninterrupted strokes.
