At Tall lies a short distance north of Damascus, in the hilly country that rises toward the Qalamoun mountains. The town occupies a valley, and the terrain shapes its outline. Streets fill the lower ground and climb the lower slopes, while the steeper rocky hills on either side stay mostly empty and appear pale on the map.
Its closeness to the capital has made At Tall part of the wider Damascus area, and roads link it to the city to the south. The built-up area is dense, with small, irregular blocks and narrow lanes typical of towns in the region that grew over time rather than according to a single plan.
