Ati is the capital of the Batha province in central Chad, set beside the Batha, a seasonal river that flows after the summer rains toward Lake Fitri. The town stands in the Sahel, where the land shifts between dry savanna and semi-desert, and its map reflects that open setting: broad, straight tracks, large blocks and plenty of space between them.
From above, the plan is loose and horizontal. Main roads cross the town and lead out across the plain, residential compounds form rough rectangles, and administrative and market areas create denser patches near the centre. The riverbed itself appears as a wide, braided band that sets a natural limit on one side of the settlement.
