‘Ayn al ‘Arab Map Poster & Print
‘Ayn al ‘Arab, also known as Kobani, lies on flat land in northern Syria, right against the Turkish border. That border gives the map its most striking feature: a hard straight line along the northern edge of the town, with the settlement stopping abruptly against it and a Turkish town sitting just across.
The town grew in the early twentieth century around the construction of the Baghdad Railway, whose tracks mark the frontier here. It became known worldwide during the 2014–2015 siege and the fighting that damaged much of it, and parts of the street pattern have since been rebuilt.
A ‘Ayn al ‘Arab map poster shows a mostly regular street network spreading south from that northern line into the surrounding farmland. For people from the town, including many now living elsewhere, it is a way of holding on to the exact streets of home, drawn simply and without commentary.

Plain grid
South of the border the streets form a fairly regular network on level ground, with blocks extending evenly toward the fields around the town.
Farmland edge
Open agricultural land surrounds the town to the south, east and west, so the dense street pattern sits like an island on the plain.

For families from Kobani, especially those who have had to leave, a map of the town's streets can mean a great deal: the neighbourhood, the route to school, the house that was rebuilt. A clean black-and-white print keeps that memory steady on a wall.
Personalise the title, a subtitle such as a neighbourhood or year, and the coordinates line, in one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. There is a free watermarked 900 px preview, and the full HD files cost $9.
