Railway junction
The branch line south to Bihar Sharif leaves the main line here. This creates a clear fork in the tracks, which is the town's most distinctive feature from above.

Bakhtiarpur Map Poster & Print
Bakhtiarpur lies in Patna district, east of the state capital on the southern side of the Ganges. The land here is very flat, part of the wide Gangetic plain. The town has grown along the main road and the railway, which run parallel to the river. Beyond the built-up area, farmland stretches out in small, irregular plots.
The town has an important railway junction where the line towards Bihar Sharif and Rajgir branches off the main line along the Ganges. As a result, trains from across the region pass through Bakhtiarpur. It's also on the highway corridor that follows the river east from Patna, making it a busy stop between the capital and the districts downstream.
The Bakhtiarpur map poster is built on long lines. The railway, highway and river all run in the same direction, and the town is a dense strip between them. The branching line to the south provides a strong diagonal that breaks the pattern and gives the composition a focus.

Ganges floodplain
To the north, the wide, low land along the Ganges opens out. It gives the map a spacious edge and a sense of the river's scale.
Linear town
The streets stretch along the main road and railway instead of forming a round core. This gives the town a long, horizontal shape on the poster.
