Tanjung Pinang
The provincial capital fills the south-west corner of the island. Its streets gather around the waterfront and reach inland in a network that quickly thins out.

Bintan Island Map Poster & Print
Bintan is the largest island of the Riau Archipelago, just south-east of Singapore across the Singapore Strait. Its outline is wide and uneven, with rounded bulges, bays and mangrove-lined inlets, and many small islands scattered off its shores. From above, roads fan out from the south-west across mostly low land covered in plantations, forest and old mining sites.
Tanjung Pinang, the capital of the Riau Islands province, sits on the south-west coast and has the densest streets on the map. Just offshore lies Penyengat, a small island that was once the centre of the Riau-Lingga Sultanate. It shows up as a tiny outline near the harbour. Along the north coast, the Lagoi area is laid out with resorts and golf courses facing the sea.
Ferries link Bintan with Singapore and Batam, and the island has long been tied to trade through the strait. A Bintan Island map poster shows a place that lies close to one of the world's busiest cities yet is still shaped mostly by coastline, mangroves and forest rather than city streets.

Penyengat Island
A tiny island off Tanjung Pinang, historically important to the Malay sultanate of Riau-Lingga. It appears as a small, separate shape just off the main coast.
Northern coast
The shore facing Singapore is lined with long beaches and the planned resort roads of Lagoi. The pattern is smoother and more open than in the older towns of the south.

Bintan draws people from both sides of the strait: families from Tanjung Pinang, weekend visitors from Singapore and people who have worked on the island. Its broad outline and scattered islets make a balanced picture for a living room or an office.
