Chmistâr is a town in the Baalbek-Hermel Governorate of Lebanon. It is in the Bekaa Valley, the high plain between the Mount Lebanon range and the Anti-Lebanon mountains. It lies west of Baalbek, near the rising ground on the western side of the valley.
From above, the town is a loose cluster of streets around a main road, with houses thinning out gradually into cultivated land. The Bekaa is Lebanon's main agricultural region. Here the fields form large geometric parcels that contrast with the more irregular lanes of the town.
A Chmistâr map poster shows a valley settlement shaped by agriculture and by the mountains on either side. The streets are modest and uneven, the farmland surrounds them in a calm grid, and the edge of the high ground brings the composition to an end. It is a quiet map with a strong sense of place.
