Devadanapatti is a town in Theni district, in western Tamil Nadu, set on the plains just below the Palani Hills. On a map the settlement is small and compact, with its lanes gathered around a central road and the land around it divided into farms, groves and irrigated fields fed by streams coming down from the hills.
What gives the place its character from above is the change in terrain nearby. To one side the ground is flat and ordered, crossed by roads and field boundaries. To the other, the network thins and bends as it approaches the steep slopes of the hills, where contours rather than streets start to define the landscape.
