Guane is a town in the far west of Cuba, in Pinar del Río province, in a landscape of farmland, low hills and rivers. It stands by the Cuyaguateje, one of the main rivers of the province, and the land around it is used largely for farming, including the tobacco for which the region is known.
From above, Guane shows the orderly layout typical of Cuban country towns: a grid of blocks around a central area, with the river and its banks shaping one side. Beyond the last blocks, fields and country roads spread out across the valley toward the hills.
