Hāthazāri Map Poster & Print
Hāthazāri lies just north of Chittagong city, in a strip of low land between a line of hills to the west and the Halda River to the east. On a map, the town centre gathers around the main road that leads north from Chittagong, with smaller settlements, paddy fields and ponds filling the land on either side.
The Halda is the defining natural feature. It meanders through the area in tight curves and is known in Bangladesh as a rare natural spawning ground for major carp species, where fishers collect fertilised eggs each season. Its looping channel gives the map a strong, irregular line against the flat fields.
The University of Chittagong has its large, hilly campus in the Hāthazāri area, and the town is also home to one of the best-known Qawmi madrasas in the country.
