Juan de Acosta is a municipality in the department of Atlántico on Colombia's Caribbean side, west of Barranquilla. The town sits a little inland, and its municipal territory extends towards the sea. On a map the settlement is a compact cluster of blocks around its centre, surrounded by dry, gently rolling land cut by seasonal streams and country roads.
The streets near the centre follow a mostly regular block pattern around the main square and church, a layout found across the towns of the Caribbean region.
