Swartkops River
The river curves along the town on its way toward the sea at Swartkops, drawing a gentle, meandering line beside otherwise orderly streets.

Kariega Map Poster & Print
Kariega, known until 2021 as Uitenhage, lies about thirty kilometres inland from Gqeberha and forms the inland arm of Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality. Its older centre sits beside the Swartkops River, with a compact grid of streets from the colonial era, while townships and suburbs extend across the surrounding slopes and the flatter ground beyond.
The town was founded in 1804 and grew into one of South Africa's main manufacturing centres. The large Volkswagen plant, in operation since the early 1950s, is the best-known part of that story. On the map, its factory halls and the rail lines that serve them form broad, flat shapes that contrast with the fine residential grid.
A Kariega map poster shows a place with a clear internal logic: river, railway, factory and neighbourhoods laid side by side. To the north and west the streets give way to hills and the Groendal wilderness area, so the composition has a soft, empty edge on one side and a dense urban one on the other.

The Volkswagen plant and nearby industrial land occupy wide blocks served by rail sidings. Together they give the poster a heavier, geometric area that anchors the design.
Historic centre grid
The older town centre is laid out on a regular grid dating from the early nineteenth century, and it is still easy to pick out among the later suburbs.

The name has changed, but the streets have not, and many people still use both names. A map of Kariega makes a grounded gift for anyone who worked at the plant, went to school here or grew up on its slopes.
Set the title to Kariega, Uitenhage or both, add a date in the subtitle and keep the coordinates, then pick from five styles, including Noir and Blueprint. Printed copies ship from print partners in more than 30 countries, or you can download the 300 DPI files for $9.
