Krujë Castle
The fortress on its rocky outcrop is where Skanderbeg held out against Ottoman sieges. It now houses museums and stands out clearly at the top of the town.

Krujë Map Poster & Print
Krujë is built on the steep slope of a mountain above central Albania's coastal plain, north of Tirana. On a map the relief shapes everything. Streets zigzag up the hillside in tight bends, the town stretches along the contours, and the flat, gridded farmland of the plain spreads out below towards the Adriatic. The castle sits on a rocky spur at the upper edge of the town.
Krujë is closely tied to Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg, Albania's national hero. In the fifteenth century he defended the castle through several Ottoman sieges. The castle now contains the Skanderbeg Museum and an ethnographic museum. Just below it, a restored old bazaar runs along a cobbled street lined with wooden-fronted shops, which is one of the town's most visited places.
A Krujë map poster brings together the mountain, the fortress and the plain. Winding streets hug the slope, the castle outline anchors the top, and the open lowland below gives a sense of height. It is a meaningful map for Albanians everywhere and for travellers who have climbed up to the castle walls.

Old bazaar street
A long cobbled bazaar runs up towards the castle, lined with traditional shops. It shows as a narrow, distinctive line through the upper town.
Switchback streets
Roads climb the mountainside in sharp turns and follow the terrain. The resulting pattern of loops and bends is quite unlike the straight fields on the plain below.

Krujë is a symbol of Albanian history, and its setting on the mountainside makes a dramatic, expressive map. It is a thoughtful gift for the diaspora, and a fine reminder for anyone who has walked the bazaar.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps with a family name or a date of your visit. Then choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand.
