Mairwa is a town in the Siwan district of Bihar, close to the border with Uttar Pradesh, set in the wide, flat country of the middle Gangetic plain. The landscape around it is overwhelmingly agricultural, and from above the town appears as a compact cluster of streets surrounded by a patchwork of fields, ponds and small villages.
