Mbabane lies high in the hills of northwestern Eswatini, along the valley of the Mbabane River. By population it is a small capital, and its map reflects the terrain more than any grand plan. Roads curve along contours and valley floors, neighbourhoods settle on slopes and spurs, and the centre forms a modest cluster of straighter streets where the ground briefly levels out.
