Poções lies in the interior of Bahia, on the road between Vitória da Conquista and the rest of the state. From above, the town is compact. Its streets form a grid of blocks that stretches out from the centre, with a main highway running past the built area.
Beyond the edges of the town, the landscape turns rural, with farmland and scattered settlements linked by smaller roads. The shape on the map is simple: a dense core, a few main roads leading out and open land beyond.
