Sagaing Hills
The ridges north of town are covered with religious buildings reached by winding paths. On the map they appear as tight, contour-following lines above the flat river plain.

Sagaing Map Poster & Print
Sagaing lies on the west bank of the Irrawaddy River, across from the Mandalay area in central Myanmar. It served as a royal capital in the fourteenth century and again briefly in the eighteenth, and the old capitals of Ava and Amarapura lie close by on the opposite bank. On a map the river is the defining element, broad and braided with sandbanks.
Behind the town, the Sagaing Hills rise in a line of low ridges covered with hundreds of monasteries, nunneries and pagodas, connected by stairways and covered walkways. It is one of the country's major centres of Buddhist monastic life. The town itself is a modest grid along the riverbank, with roads leading north toward the hills.
A Sagaing map poster works well at a scale that takes in the river crossings toward Mandalay and the islands in the channel. The long spans, the shifting sandbanks and the folded terrain of the hills make a composition that is both graphic and quietly contemplative, well suited to a calm room.

Irrawaddy crossings
Road and rail bridges have long linked Sagaing with the Mandalay side. Their straight spans across the wide channel make the town's tie to its larger neighbour visible.
Braided river
Sandbanks and islands split the Irrawaddy into several channels. The pattern changes with the seasons and gives the poster soft, layered shapes.

For Myanmar families at home and abroad, Sagaing is linked to monastic life, pilgrimage and the view across the river to Mandalay. A map of the town and its hills is a calm, respectful way to keep that place present.
