Sahaswān is a town in Budaun district in western Uttar Pradesh, on the broad, flat plain of the upper Ganges. The river runs to the southwest of the town, and the land around it is intensively farmed. From above, Sahaswan is a compact settlement with a dense old centre of narrow, irregular lanes and roads leading out to the villages across the plain.
The town has an important place in Indian music. It gave its name to the Rampur-Sahaswan gharana, a school of Hindustani classical singing, and several of the tradition's well-known vocalists came from Sahaswan families. For a small town it has an unusually long reach in the country's musical history.
