Salaspils Map Poster & Print
Salaspils is on the right bank of the Daugava, a short way upstream from Riga. The river runs along its northern side and is widened here by the reservoir of the Riga Hydroelectric Power Plant, whose dam crosses the Daugava near the town. On a map the water is a broad band. The town sits beside it in an orderly pattern of residential blocks, with pine forest around it.
Two places give Salaspils a wider reputation. The National Botanic Garden of Latvia is here, with its planted grounds and glasshouses. The Salaspils Memorial marks the site of a Nazi-era camp and stands in the forest outside the town, with large sculptures in an open clearing. Main roads and the railway toward Riga run through on an east–west line.

The National Botanic Garden of Latvia occupies a large area of paths and planted beds. The winding walkways show up clearly next to the straighter residential streets.
Forest clearing memorial
South of the centre, the memorial site sits in an open clearing surrounded by pine. On the map it reads as a quiet gap in the woodland.
