Sarakhs Map Poster & Print
Sarakhs lies in the far northeast of Iran, in Razavi Khorasan province, right on the border with Turkmenistan. From above, the town sits on a flat, dry plain beside the Tejen, known in Iran as the Hari Rud, which marks the frontier. Directly across the river is the Turkmen town of Serakhs, so the map shows two settlements facing each other.
This position has shaped its history. Sarakhs was a stop on routes between Iran and Central Asia, part of the wider Silk Road network, and it remains a crossing point today. A railway link opened in the 1990s connects Iran's network with Turkmenistan through the town, and a free trade zone has grown up around it.
A Sarakhs map poster frames the town against its border. The river's line, the grid of streets, the rail and road corridors heading north and west and the wide open land around them combine into a stark, geometric image. It suits the minimalist approach, where empty space carries as much weight as the lines.

Rail and road corridors
Rail lines and highways converge on Sarakhs as a crossing point between Iran and Central Asia, drawn as long straight lines across the plain.
The open plain
Flat, dry land surrounds the town, so the built-up area stands out as a compact cluster with very little between it and the horizon.
