Clustered centres
The built-up area forms several small clusters rather than one core. Each shows up on the map as a knot of streets where roads meet.

Subulussalam Map Poster & Print
Subulussalam lies in the interior of southern Aceh, close to the border with North Sumatra. From above it doesn't look like one compact city. It's a set of settlements spread along roads that wind through low hills, river valleys and plantation land. The main built-up areas cluster where routes meet, and in between the map opens into long stretches of green that on a poster become calm, open space.
The city became a separate administrative area in 2007, when it was split off from Aceh Singkil Regency, so as a city it is relatively young. Its position on the overland routes between Aceh and North Sumatra gives it a role as a local crossroads, and farming, especially oil palm, shapes much of the land around it.
A Subulussalam map poster shows this dispersed pattern clearly: the small dense clusters, the roads that link them and the rivers running through the valleys. Because the city is so spread out, the print feels spacious and linear, closer to a regional sketch than a crowded street plan. It's an unusual, understated map for anyone with roots in this part of Sumatra.

Winding connecting roads
The roads between settlements follow the valleys and low hills instead of a grid. Their curves give the poster a flowing, hand-drawn character.
River valleys
Rivers cut through the city's territory and help decide where roads and villages sit. On paper they add fine lines between the clusters of streets.

For families from southern Aceh, or anyone who has made the journey between Aceh and North Sumatra, Subulussalam is a meaningful place to put on a wall. Its spread-out shape is distinctive and very different from a typical city grid.
Change the title, subtitle and coordinates line to mark a hometown, a family name or a special year. Then choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. You can get a free watermarked preview first, then buy the $9 files or a printed poster.
