Tåsinge lies in the South Funen Archipelago, directly across the narrow Svendborgsund from the town of Svendborg. On a map it is a compact, rounded island with bays biting into its edges, surrounded by smaller islets and shallow waters. A bridge carries the main road over the sound from Funen, and on the eastern side a chain of causeways and bridges continues via Siø toward Langeland.
The interior is a patchwork of farmland, small woods and villages linked by country roads, with no single dominant town. Troense, on the northeastern shore, is an old maritime village of low houses and narrow lanes, and nearby stands Valdemars Slot, a seventeenth-century manor built for a son of King Christian IV.
Tåsinge is also known for Bregninge Church, whose tower offers wide views over the archipelago, and for the grave of the tightrope walker Elvira Madigan at Landet.
