Tharyarwady Map Poster & Print
Tharyarwady, often written Tharrawaddy, is a town in Myanmar's Bago Region. It lies on the flat, fertile plain east of the Irrawaddy River, in country dominated by rice fields and slow-moving streams. The town grew along the railway line and main road connecting Yangon with Pyay, and those two routes still give its map its main north–south direction.
The name is closely associated with the history of the colonial period. The Saya San rebellion against British rule began in the Tharrawaddy district in 1930. Today, the map reads as a compact town: a regular pattern of blocks near the station and market, and then the streets gradually open into villages, fields and irrigation channels.
A Tharyarwady map poster captures a place defined by the plain around it. No hills or coastline interrupt the view. Instead, the parallel lines of rail and road meet the looser pattern of rural lanes, and the quiet empty spaces of the fields frame the town. It is a simple composition, which makes the structure of the centre stand out clearly.

Town blocks
Near the centre, streets form a fairly regular set of blocks that loosen toward the edges, where houses give way to gardens and fields.
Irrawaddy plain
Around the town, flat farmland with streams and channels creates a wide open field that surrounds the settlement on every side.

For people with roots in the Bago Region, a map of Tharyarwady is a way to keep hold of the town from afar: the station, the market streets and the roads out to the villages, all drawn in a simple, recognisable form.
Add your own title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps a family name or a date, and choose one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. It comes as HD files or a printed poster.
