Coastal terraces
Streets run in long parallel bands between the shore and the hills. The terrain forces this stepped layout and gives the town its unmistakably elongated shape.

Türkmenbaşy Map Poster & Print
Türkmenbaşy, known as Krasnovodsk until 1993, was founded in 1869 as a Russian outpost on the eastern shore of the Caspian Sea. The map explains its long, narrow form. The town is squeezed between Türkmenbaşy Bay and a line of rocky, arid hills, so its streets run parallel to the shore in stacked terraces instead of spreading inland.
It became the western terminus of the Trans-Caspian Railway, and the port still links Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan and beyond by ferry. Harbour basins, piers, rail yards and a large oil refinery shape the waterfront. Long sandy spits curve across the bay, giving the coastline a shape unlike almost any other.
A Türkmenbaşy map poster turns this into a striking composition: the dense band of streets, the angular port works, the bare hills behind and the broad, calm water in front. To the west lies the Awaza resort zone, which adds a line of newer development along the beach.

Port and railway
Where the Trans-Caspian line meets the sea, rail sidings, piers and ferry berths form a hard-edged industrial pattern along the waterfront.
Türkmenbaşy Bay
A shallow bay partly enclosed by long sand spits spreads out beside the town, framing the streets with wide open water on the map.

For anyone connected to the Caspian, whether through the oil industry, the ferry routes or family roots, this is a place that looks as dramatic on paper as it does from the hills. Its outline alone makes a memorable print.
You can change the title and subtitle, perhaps to Krasnovodsk or a year that matters to you, and edit the coordinates. Choose from five styles. Noir and Sand both suit the desert and sea setting, and the HD files cost $9.
