Eschwege Map Poster & Print
Eschwege lies on the Werra river in north-eastern Hesse, in a broad valley between wooded hills. The old town sits close to the river, and its narrow, irregular streets are lined with hundreds of half-timbered houses. On a map, the medieval core shows as a dense, slightly oval knot of lanes, clearly distinct from the more open neighbourhoods around it.
The Werra curves past the town, with meadows, side channels and a lake on the flood plain adding soft shapes to the composition. The Landgrafenschloss, a former residence of the landgraves of Hesse, stands at the edge of the old town. The town's figure of the Dietemann, a watchman who appears on the castle clock, is a well-known local symbol.
An Eschwege map poster shows the old core and the river together, as they have always been. The dense medieval streets, the bridges and the meadows along the Werra make a detailed, lively image in black and white. It is a natural choice for people who know the Werra valley and its half-timbered towns.
