Manica Map Poster & Print
Manica is a town in central Mozambique close to the border with Zimbabwe, and the capital of the district of the same name. It sits in hilly country on the route that runs from the port of Beira inland to the Zimbabwean city of Mutare. From above, the main road is the spine. The town gathers along it, and a looser network of streets and paths extends into the surrounding slopes.
The Manica highlands have long been linked with gold. People have worked the area for centuries, and small-scale mining still exists. The transport corridor between Beira and Zimbabwe gives the town much of its importance, carrying road traffic toward the frontier. The land around it is rougher than the coastal plain, and hills break up the landscape into valleys and ridges.
A Manica map poster reads as a frontier composition. A single firm road crosses the frame, the town gathers around it, and irregular tracks spread outward into hill country with no grid in sight. It is a simple, honest image of a place defined by movement and terrain, with the rest of the country to the east and the border only a short distance west.

Border proximity
The Zimbabwe frontier lies just to the west, and Mutare sits a short drive beyond it, so the town is a gateway between the two countries.
Highland terrain
Hills and valleys break up the settlement. Roads bend around slopes, and the edges of the town dissolve into irregular paths instead of neat blocks.

དོན་དག་ཡོད་པའི་ས་ཁྲ།
Manica is meaningful to Mozambican families from the central highlands, to people who have travelled or worked on the Beira corridor, and to anyone with ties on both sides of the Zimbabwe border. Its road-and-hills composition feels open and direct.
