Mwanza is a town in Malawi's Southern Region, close to the border with Mozambique. It lies on the main road from Blantyre towards the border and on to Tete, and much of its character comes from that route, as a stopping point for traffic crossing between the two countries.
From above, the main road runs through the town as its clearest line, with the built-up area gathered along it and a looser network of streets and paths spreading out on either side. The surrounding landscape is hilly and open, with the lines on the map thinning out quickly beyond town.
