Belidzhi is an urban-type settlement in the Derbent district of Dagestan, in Russia's far south. It lies on the lowland strip between the Caspian Sea and the eastern foothills of the Greater Caucasus. This narrow corridor has long carried the main route between the north Caucasus and the countries to the south, and on a map the road and railway run through the settlement side by side.
The settlement's streets form a practical pattern of residential blocks and household plots arranged along the transport lines. Around them lie orchards, vineyards and cultivated fields, the characteristic farmland of the southern Dagestan plain. To the east the land runs down towards the sea, and to the west the terrain rises gradually towards the hills.
