Bushey lies in Hertfordshire, just south-east of Watford and close to the northern edge of London. The land climbs toward Bushey Heath, which is among the highest ground in the area, and from above the town is a mixture of curving residential streets, cul-de-sacs, playing fields and pockets of woodland.
The older village centre, with its high street and church, forms a small core. In the late nineteenth century the painter Hubert von Herkomer founded an art school here, and Bushey became home to a community of artists whose studios and houses are still part of its story.
