Cottage Lake is a semi-rural community in King County, Washington, east of Woodinville. Its map looks nothing like a typical suburb. Streets curve and dead-end, and property lines are large enough that the road network looks sparse. Much of the space between houses is forest, pasture or wetland.
The community takes its name from a small lake that sits within it, surrounded by homes and a public park. Bear Creek runs through the area and is known as salmon habitat, and the county has worked to protect much of its corridor. Many properties keep horses, which helps explain the large lots and open fields.
