Deux-Montagnes lies on the north shore of the Lake of Two Mountains, a wide stretch of the Ottawa River just northwest of the island of Montreal. The shoreline is the defining line of the map. The town runs along the water, and the streets stretch back from it into quiet residential neighbourhoods.
Most of the street pattern is suburban, made up of curving crescents, loops and long residential avenues laid out in the second half of the twentieth century. The lakeshore is lined with houses and small parks, and the town's rail line to Montreal cuts a straight diagonal through the grid. The line is being rebuilt as part of the REM network.
