Dois Irmãos lies in Rio Grande do Sul, in the Vale do Sinos region north of Porto Alegre, where the plains begin to rise toward the Serra Gaúcha. The area was settled by German immigrants in the nineteenth century, and that heritage still shapes local architecture, festivals and family names.
