Dombe Grande lies south of Benguela in Angola's coastal belt, where the Coporolo River cuts a strip of irrigated ground through otherwise arid country. From above, the town is a compact cluster of streets beside the riverbed. Field boundaries spread outward from it, and unpaved tracks come in from the surrounding farms.
