Eustis lies in Lake County, north of Orlando, on the eastern shore of the lake that shares its name. From above, water defines the place. The downtown grid runs up to a curving shoreline, residential streets wrap around smaller lakes and ponds, and the large open shape of Lake Eustis fills much of the frame to the west.
The lake is part of the Harris Chain of Lakes, a linked series of lakes and canals in this part of Central Florida. Nearby, the Dora Canal connects Lake Eustis with Lake Dora, a narrow channel known for its cypress-lined banks. The town grew as a lakeside settlement, and its waterfront park remains a focus of civic life.
