Kortið
Seen from above, Farnborough is organised around an unusual centrepiece: the long runway and aprons of its airport, laid out on open ground beside the town. Residential streets fill the land between the airfield and the railway lines. The Blackwater River and its valley road mark the eastern edge with Surrey. Patches of heath and woodland survive on the fringes and soften the outline where the town meets the military land of Aldershot.
Farnborough holds a particular place in British aviation. Samuel Cody made the first officially recognised powered flight in Britain here in 1908, and the Royal Aircraft Establishment spent much of the twentieth century testing aircraft on the same ground. Today the Farnborough International Airshow brings the aerospace industry here every other July. The historic wind tunnels and hangars still show in the street pattern.
A Farnborough map poster turns this mix of runway, rail and suburban crescents into a clean graphic study. Different line weights separate the main roads from quiet closes, water is shown as calm fields of tone, and the airfield becomes a broad pale shape at the centre of the composition. It suits anyone with a link to the town, whether through family, work in aerospace or years of watching the display from a garden.

The Blackwater River and the relief road beside it run north to south along the eastern edge of the town. They form a thin corridor of water, lakes and green space between Hampshire and Surrey.
Two railway lines cross the town, each with its own station. They split the residential districts into distinct blocks and give the street pattern a framework of long, gently curving barriers.

Hví Farnborough
For people who work in aerospace, grew up under the flight path or met at the airshow, this map holds a very specific kind of memory. From across a room it reads as abstract geometry. Up close it becomes a familiar neighbourhood, where you can trace a route home street by street.
Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, and set your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps a family name or the date of a first flight. You can download the HD files for $9 in six print sizes, or order a matte print with an optional wooden frame.
