Kortið
Harappa is a small town in Sahiwal District in Pakistan's Punjab, and its name is famous around the world. The adjacent archaeological site, excavated from the 1920s onward, gave its name to the Harappan or Indus Valley Civilisation, one of the earliest urban cultures. The mounds of the ancient city lie next to the modern town.
On the map, the modern settlement is a compact cluster of streets, while the archaeological area is a large open space with paths and boundary lines. Around both, the flat Punjab plain is divided by canals and field roads into long rectangles. An old course of the Ravi River once ran nearby, shaping the site's original location.
A Harappa map poster sets a modern town and one of the oldest planned cities in the world in the same frame. The Indus cities were known for carefully laid-out streets and drainage, which makes their location an especially fitting subject for a map. It is a thoughtful piece for anyone interested in archaeology or early urban history.
The archaeological site next to the town covers a wide area. On the poster, it appears as a large open space, marking the remains of a Bronze Age city.
The present-day settlement is small and compact, with a tight network of streets close to the site. The contrast in scale is clear from above.
Irrigation canals and field roads divide the flat Punjab farmland into long, regular strips. They form a strong geometric pattern around the town.
