Kronberg sits where the Taunus hills start to rise above the plain northwest of Frankfurt, and the map shows this clearly. The historic centre is small and tightly packed around the castle hill, its lanes curving with the slope. Around it the town opens into winding residential streets, gardens and wooded edges, and to the north the forest of the Taunus takes over from the built-up area.
The medieval Burg Kronberg still looks down over the half-timbered old town. On the edge of town stands Schloss Friedrichshof, built in the late nineteenth century for Empress Victoria, widow of Emperor Frederick III, and now a hotel. Kronberg is also home to the Kronberg Academy, a music school known internationally for its training of young string players and its concerts.
A Kronberg map poster shows a town that is partly settlement and partly landscape. The fine grain of the old centre is set against the looser, curving streets of the hillside neighbourhoods, and the large green spaces around the palace grounds and the forest leave wide blank areas in the composition. The result is a calm, balanced print in which terrain and streets share the frame.

Palace park and forest
The grounds of Schloss Friedrichshof and the wooded hills to the north appear as broad open areas. They give the poster breathing room and show where the town gives way to the Taunus.
