Lake Zurich is a village in Lake County, Illinois, in the north-western suburbs of Chicago. Its map is centred on the lake that gives the village its name. It is a compact, rounded body of water formed by glacial action, and streets run close to its shore on most sides, with homes and small parks facing the water.
Around the lake, the pattern changes to the suburban neighbourhoods of the later twentieth century, with curving streets, courts and cul-de-sacs set among ponds and patches of woodland. Rand Road, US Route 12, runs past on a long diagonal, and other state routes cross the area, lined with shopping centres and business parks.
