Licheng is the central subdistrict of Zengcheng, a district on the eastern side of Guangzhou in the Pearl River Delta region. The Zeng River winds through it in wide loops, and the town has grown along both banks. On the map, the older streets cluster tightly beside the water, while broad new roads and residential compounds extend across the valley floor.
Zengcheng is widely known in China for its lychees, which have been cultivated here for centuries and remain a point of local pride. Orchards and green slopes still surround much of the urban area. In recent decades the district has been drawn steadily into the Guangzhou metropolis, adding expressways, metro connections and industrial parks to a landscape that was once largely agricultural.
