Kortið
Llallagua sits on the Bolivian Altiplano in northern Potosí Department, at an altitude where trees are scarce and the land reads mostly as contour and slope. On a map the town appears as a compact block of streets laid across uneven ground, with roads threading out toward neighbouring mining settlements and the open country beyond. The lines are short and dense, then stop abruptly where the hills take over.
The town is closely tied to the Siglo XX tin mine, once among the most productive in the world and central to the story of Bolivian mining and its labour movement. That industrial past shows up from above as irregular clearings, tracks and spoil areas that break the pattern of the residential blocks, giving the plan an unusual, working texture.
A Llallagua map poster reduces all of this to black lines on white: the gridded core, the winding approach roads, the gaps where the terrain refuses streets. It is a spare image, which suits a place defined by altitude, stone and work rather than ornament. For anyone with family roots in the mining towns of Potosí, it is a quiet, direct reminder.
The historic tin mine at the edge of town shaped both the local economy and the layout, leaving open ground and access roads that contrast with the tighter residential grid.
Llallagua lies well above 3,500 metres, and the thin network of roads crossing the surrounding high plateau makes the town itself read as a dense island of lines.
Where the town meets rising ground, streets bend and shorten, and the orderly blocks give way to looser patterns that follow the slope.
