Lund is one of the oldest towns in Sweden, founded around the end of the tenth century, and its centre still follows a medieval street plan. On a map the old town appears as a tight cluster of irregular streets around the Romanesque cathedral, with the green expanse of Lundagård beside it and university buildings spreading out from there.
Lund University, founded in 1666, shapes much of the city, from historic lecture halls and student nations to large modern campuses to the northeast. Further out, the research facilities MAX IV and the European Spallation Source have added new districts to the map. The city is also where Tetra Pak was founded, and where early work on Bluetooth was done at Ericsson.
