Metepec lies directly south-east of Toluca in the State of Mexico, on the high, flat valley floor. Much of the municipality has become part of the Toluca metropolitan area, so the map shows a wide, busy network of avenues and residential districts, with the older town centre standing out as a more irregular cluster.
That historic centre sits at the foot of the Cerro de los Magueyes, a small hill topped by a chapel, which appears as a gentle rise within the surrounding streets.
