Mokotów is the most populous district of Warsaw, stretching south from the city centre toward Ursynów and Wilanów. Its western and central parts sit on the high plain, while the eastern side drops down the Vistula escarpment, a long wooded slope that divides Upper Mokotów from the lower, greener land toward the river. On the map this slope appears as a band of parks and winding paths.
The district's texture varies from block to block. Near the centre, the streets of Stary Mokotów mix interwar apartment houses with quiet villa quarters, while further south large post-war estates fill wide rectangles between main roads. Puławska Street runs through it all as the principal north-south axis, and toward the west the office cluster around Domaniewska Street forms a dense grid of its own.
