Kortið
Sŏnbong is a town in the Rason special city at the north-eastern tip of North Korea, close to where the country meets both China and Russia along the Tumen River. It lies on the coast of the sea known in Korea as the East Sea, and its map is shaped by land meeting water: a curving shoreline, coastal lagoons and low hills behind the settled area.
The town was known as Unggi until the early 1980s, when it was renamed Sŏnbong. Its harbour and an oil refinery complex have been its main economic features, and the surrounding area became part of the Rason Special Economic Zone, established in the early 1990s to encourage trade with neighbouring countries.
A Sŏnbong map poster is an unusual subject: a place few people can visit and fewer have seen from above. In black and white the coastline, the lagoons and the modest street pattern of the town form a clean, spare composition, one that says as much about geography and borders as it does about the town itself.
Shallow lagoons and inlets lie along the shore near the town, adding irregular shapes of water that soften the edge between land and sea.
The port area and the refinery complex occupy a distinct zone near the water. On the map they appear as larger footprints set apart from the residential streets.
A short distance away, the Tumen River marks the meeting point of North Korea, China and Russia, giving this corner of the coast its rare tri-border setting.

Hví Sŏnbong
For map collectors, geographers and people with family ties to the north-east of the Korean Peninsula, Sŏnbong is a quiet, rarely seen place. The poster presents it simply, as geography rather than headline.
You can change the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example to add the former name or a date, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The free 900 px preview lets you check the framing first.
