Temara lies just south of Rabat along the Atlantic coast, and from above it reads as a series of parallel bands. Nearest the ocean is the shoreline with its beaches and rocky stretches, then a strip of residential districts, then the transport corridors that link the capital with Casablanca. Inland, newer neighbourhoods spread across flat ground in broad, planned blocks.
The town has grown quickly in recent decades as Rabat's population pushed south, and the map shows this clearly. Older, tighter streets near the centre give way to wide avenues, housing estates and villa districts, many laid out on regular lines. The coastline remains the constant edge, a pale curve against which the rest of the plan is organised.
