From above, Wamba shows up as an open patch in a wide belt of tropical forest in north-eastern DR Congo. Its streets form a loose, low network that thins out quickly at the edges. Wamba sits in Haut-Uele province. The town is a local centre for the villages around it and is the seat of a Catholic diocese of the same name. Dirt roads link it to the wider region.
