East-west orientation
The island's long axis runs almost directly east to west, giving it a strong horizontal form that works naturally in a landscape format.

Abd al Kuri Map Poster & Print
Abd al Kuri lies at the western end of the Socotra archipelago in the Arabian Sea, between Socotra itself and the Horn of Africa. On a map it forms a long, slender island stretched from east to west, rising to mountain ridges through its central part and falling to plains and sandy shores along the coast.
The island is sparsely inhabited, with small fishing communities along the shore and very few mapped roads. Like the rest of the archipelago, it belongs to the Socotra UNESCO World Heritage site, recognised for plants and animals found nowhere else. Its remoteness means the map is shaped almost entirely by natural features.
An Abd al Kuri map poster is a study in line and space: a narrow outline laid across a wide sea, with only a few tracks or settlements marked near the coast. It suits a horizontal frame, where the island's length can stretch across the paper and the surrounding water can breathe.

Central mountains
Ridges rise through the middle of the island, shaping its rugged profile and leaving only narrow coastal strips of lower ground on either side.
Open Arabian Sea
Wide water surrounds the island on every side, separating it from Socotra to the east and the African coast to the west and underlining its isolation.

Pourquoi Abd al Kuri
Une carte qui a du sens
Abd al Kuri appeals to those with ties to Socotra and Yemen, to naturalists interested in the archipelago's unusual ecology and to anyone who collects maps of remote places. Its long, simple outline makes a quiet and unusual centrepiece.
You can personalise the title and subtitle, add a date or the coordinates line, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Sand suits the island's dry landscape; Blueprint gives it a precise, cartographic tone.
