La carte
Alpignano Map Poster & Print
Alpignano lies on the western edge of the Turin metropolitan area, where the plain begins to rise toward the Susa Valley and the Alps. The Dora Riparia river runs past the town in a series of wide bends, and the old centre sits above its banks. On a map the river's curves and the bridges crossing it form the strongest features.
The town has a significant place in the history of electric light. In the 1880s Alessandro Cruto established a factory here to produce his incandescent lamps, and the site later became part of Philips. Industry and housing then spread along the river and roads, linking Alpignano ever more closely with Turin.
An Alpignano map poster places a compact historic centre beside a meandering river, with newer districts, fields and the green fringes of the Dora corridor spreading out from there. The result is a quieter view of the Turin area, with the mountains close by.

River crossings
Bridges link the two banks of the Dora and focus the road network. They are key points where the town's streets come together.
Industrial heritage
The town grew around lamp manufacturing that began in the nineteenth century. Former industrial plots along the roads and river are still visible in the layout.
